Cable Bread (Ha ha ha)

Doesn’t this bread look delicious? Well, it is.
When you realize how easy this is to make, you might make it too.
It is a crusty almost sour dough bread that you let rise all day and then bake in a covered stoneware dish.
Various versions of this recipe can be found all over Pinterest. I linked a few below.

You mix together a few ingredients – flour, salt, yeast, and warm water. Then let it rise all day.
My husband came up with the name Cable bread, because it sits on our cable box to rise. 😉
That is one of the few warm places in our house, we keep it nice and cold in our house all year round.
My bowl fits perfectly on top of the cable box under the television.
After it has risen for 8 to 10 hours, you drop it in a HOT stoneware dish that has already been in the oven for 30 minutes.
You bake it covered for 30 minutes, then uncovered for 10 minutes.
Ta da… beautiful hot crusty bread.

INGREDIENTS:

3 cups all purpose flour

2 teaspoons kosher salt

1/2 teaspoon active dry yeast

1 1/2 cups warm water

2 teaspoons olive oil

DIRECTIONS:

Mix together flour, salt, yeast and water.
Sprinkle with a little olive oil and cover with plastic wrap to maintain heat.
Place in warm spot for 8 to 10 hours.

Preheat oven to 450 degrees.
Place stoneware in the oven for 30 minutes.
Pour dough on counter with a little flour.
After stoneware has been in the oven for 30 mintues, carefully take out of the oven and spray with cooking spray.
Drop the dough in the stoneware. Cover it and place back in 450 degree oven for 30 minutes.
Take off the cover and bake another 8 to 10 minutes.

Dry ingredients:

Mix together before adding warm water.

Mix together with warm water. I heat mine in the microwave for about 1 minute.

You should have a sticky dough. Sprinkle some olive oil and cover with plastic.

8 to 10 hours later, it looks all light and airy.

Pour on counter that has a little flour and roll it gently. Do not need to knead. 🙂

Drop in hot stoneware that has been baked in the oven at 450 degrees for 30 minutes & sprayed with cooking spray.
Put cover on and put back in the oven.

After 30 minutes! Starting to look good, just needs a little tan.

After 8 to 10 more minutes at 450 degrees without the cover.

Carefully take out of the stoneware and put on cutting board.

My daughter said this is her favorite bread.
She likes to put some butter on it and dip it in her soup. Crazy kids. ♥

Enjoy!
